A new beauty ritual
Ritual Hair, Skin, and Nail Lounge opens in University Heights

What’s your ritual? Wake up, grab a cup of coffee and then figure out how to deal with the nest on your head that is supposed to be hair. If that sounds familiar, maybe it’s time to step into a new routine at Ritual Hair, Skin, and Nail Lounge, a six-month veteran to University Heights.
With over two decades of hair expertise, owner Stacey Zayas offers the latest hair treatment that will certainly straighten out your morning routine. The Brazilian Keratin Treatment repairs damaged, over-processed and naturally difficult hair, restoring it to a smooth, soft, and frizz-free shine for about four months. It can be used in place of the Japanese Straightener for half the cost.
The treatment has caught on in the East and Zayas is one of the only people in the area to use it. The treatment can be used on people of all ages, whether the hair has been previously treated or never been touched. It’s also natural — no chemicals are used in the process.
Along with this specialized service, Ritual offers a wide array of treatments and services including waxing, facials, microdermabrasion, hair cut and color, manicures and pedicures, and more — making it a one-stop shop.
Rod Hubbard, Ritual’s receptionist and customer service specialist, says some people come in for the full treatment, visiting all the stations of the salon and swapping stories with different employees. “We share clients and we’re like one big family — our clients and our employees,” says Hubbard.
Zayas was a partner in the ownership of Sheer Salon just down the road from Ritual’s location for 20 years. After deciding to close their doors and venture out on a new salon, Zayas decided she wanted to create the ultimate beauty ritual in University Heights. “Customer service is number one for us,” she says. “The energy feels good in the salon and it’s very open and homey.”
Hubbard has worked with Zayas for eight years and says Ritual Salon is all about creating an experience that takes care of their customers. “People love us because we’re friendly and family oriented and we do incredible work.”
Ritual has also been nominated as one of the top salons in San Diego and holds fundraisers for Rady Children’s Hospital Autism Discovery Institute.
