Blisswear for everyday American woman

A yoga clothing boutique moves to South Park

By Caitlin Moss

After 10 years of success on Adams Avenue, Blisswear has moved to give South Park a feel for what the boutique has to offer.
Debby Adams is the mastermind, designer and owner behind Blisswear and says she decided to move to South Park for the increased foot traffic and interesting people. The boutique originally began as a wholesale yoga clothes and fashion consulting business and has now evolved into a boutique that offers comfortably elegant clothing.
While doing wholesale, Adams says she decided to shift into retail while keeping fashion consulting a large part of her business. Adams designs all patterns, prototypes and clothing items in the store, making it easy for customers to co-design each piece of clothing.
The majority of the items in the store reflect the female silhouette and are made to order, including the print, the fabric and the fit.
Blisswear is not just a yoga boutique but also a custom manufacturing house. “I may own my own business but my customers are my bosses,” says Adams. “People pick colors I wouldn’t even think of — you definitely get a hand in designing your own stuff!”
Adams says her vision for Blisswear is to bring glamour and elegance to the every day woman’s life. “Women in America wear a lot of hats,” she says. “We need comfy clothes — my clothes bring comfort and elegance that translate from daytime to evening.”
The evolution of Blisswear began when Adams was instructing yoga classes and realized yoga clothing wasn’t available. Adams decided to start selling her own yoga apparel designs wholesale and word quickly spread. “The yoga body is a softer, rounded body, not skinny and scrawny,” says Adams. She used what she knew about the yoga practicing demographic to design clothes that are elegant and practical.
Now the boutique includes everything from yoga clothes to dresses, shoes, vintage jewelry and accessories. Even though Blisswear has proven to be a success in the past 10 years, Adams admits she’s not in love with being an entrepreneur, but is in love with fabric and clothes.
Blisswear is open noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and Sundays and Monday by chance or by appointment. For more information, visit Blisswear at 2209 Fern St. or www.blisswear.com. z
