North Park dining spots offer Valentine’s Day and monthly specials

Valentine’s Day falls on Sunday, Feb. 14, but it’s also the start of the Lunar New Year (The Year of the Tiger), making it a doubly auspicious day to celebrate. A handful of North Park dining establishments are doing just that — either with Valentine’s Day specials or by promoting some of their best menu items throughout the month. Here’s a sampling, in the restaurants’ own words:
Urban Solace Restaurant: We are featuring a special Prix Fixe menu as well as an ala carte version of our regular menu with some unique dishes created by Chef Matt Gordon just for the night. We’ll also be featuring live jazz by Daniel Spadavecchia. More details are on the Website: urbansolace.net. 3823 30th St. (619) 295-6464.
Sea Rocket Bistro: We will definitely be offering a Prix Fixe Valentine’s Day menu, either three or four courses for somewhere between $30-$40, including a glass of complimentary champagne. The special menu also will be offered on Feb. 12 and 13. We decorate with fresh flowers and candles, and play a romantic music mix, as opposed to our usual eclectic house mix. We also will be offering a special on Stone Brewing bottled beers as an Anti-Valentine’s Day component in our bar area, including Arrogant Bastard, Double Arrogant Bastard, Cali-Belgique, Smoked Porter, Double IPA, Pale Ale, and 2009 Holiday Ale. All bottles will be $1-$2 off the regular menu price. 3382 30th St. (619) 255-7049.
El Comal: Enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine, hand-made according to time-honored traditions. El Comal offers a full bar, patio seating and live music Friday and Saturday. For Valentine’s Day, El Comal will offer a special couples menu, and music. Details are on the Website: elcomalsd.com. Call for reservations. 3946 Illinois St. (619) 294-8292.
