It’s Gorgeous – Beauty salon celebrates 10-year anniversary

Cindy Jarrett, owner of Gorgeous Salon, is celebrating a decade in business in North Park.

To Cindy Jarrett, Gorgeous is more than an adjective or a beauty salon. “We’re like a family here,” she says. “We’re really close — all of us.”
She’s talking about herself and the 10 independent contractors who style and cut hair, perform skin therapy and do manicures at the salon at 3605 30th St.
That may be why Gorgeous Salon and Gallery has been around for the last decade — it’s celebrating its 10th anniversary this year — and why owner Jarrett, a University Heights native, continues to upgrade the business. In January, for example, she leased the building space next door, knocked out a wall and added three more hair styling stations, two manicure tables and an additional spa pedicure chair. She’s having an artist paint a mural on the wall.
Jarrett, 40, opened the salon in January 2000 as the sole stylist. Now she has six full-time hair stylists an esthetician (Margaret Ramos) and a manicurist, among her independent contravtors.
What does she look for in the stylists and others who share space in the salon? “They have to be good at what they do, of course,” says Jarrett, “and they must be professional.”
Jarrett says a business should not only be in existence to make a profit, but should contribute to the well-being of its community. “The ladies of Gorgeous Salon keep pace with the North Park community by supporting the local small businesses, coordinating photo shoots with local artists and designers, year-round fundraising, supporting the North Park Toyland Parade and volunteering within the community,” Jarrett says.
Jarrett worked for a few other salons before opening her own business. She trained at the California Hair Design Academy.
