Kensington Concert Series brings music and celebration to the community

The Kensington Concert Series, a program held in conjunction with the community’s 2010 Centennial Celebration, will hold its next concert on June 19 at 5:30 p.m. at a residence at 4249 Ridgeway Drive. “A Mandolin Concert” will feature Gary Payne and friends, joined by the Kensington Trio.

Future concerts are set for July, August, September, October and December. Tickets for each (covering the concert and reception) are $24 per person and are available at Kensington Video. Net proceeds go to the Friends of Kensington-Normal Heights Library.

Ron Morebello is chairman of the Kensington Concert Series. He plays the piano with the Kensington Trio. Mike Tristany, a Realtor, co-sponsors the series.

The other concerts in the series are:

• July 9, 5 p.m. Kensington Library Park: Tony and Giovanna Di Bona, with friends in “Roman Holiday — A Festa.” The nationally famous Italian entertainers will perform classic and swing Italian music.

• Aug. 22, 6 p.m., home at 5217 Canterbury Drive: Lindsey Yung and Friends, Tony Morebello and his Katywompus Trio, and Pitt Warner and his Friends in Jazz. An outdoor concert featuring a singer/songwriter, a rock and jazz fusion trio and a jazz combo.

• Sept. 10, 5 p.m., Kensington Library Park: Sue Palmer, piano, Deejha Marie, vocals and Sharon Shufeld, bass. Palmer is “San Diego’s queen of boogie-woogie piano.

• Oct. 17, 5 p.m., home at 5249 Marlborough Drive: Rita Cantos, mezzo soprano and Ole Kittleson, Starlight Opera “legend.”

• Dec. 10, 7:30 p.m., Kensington Community Church, 4773 Marlborough Drive: Ava Liss, mezzo soprano, Kathleen Fogarty, soprano, Liliane Choney, piano, with instrumental music, the Hoover High School Vocal Ensemble conducted by Laura Williams.
